Finance and Accounts Officer

Uttara, Dhaka (on-site) · Application deadline: Open until filled

Job description

In this role you will build the foundations of Hifzul Quran Foundation's finance system. In the planned system every fund, including Zakat, Sadaqah and Waqf, is kept in its own ledger, and donor-restricted funds are used only for their stated purpose. The Foundation is in its founding stage, so you will also help shape the policies, registers and reporting structure. The role reports to the Executive Director, and to Aminur Rahaman until the Executive Director joins.

Responsibilities

  • Run fund accounting and keep the chart of accounts and daily transaction records up to date
  • Maintain separate ledgers and fund balances for Zakat, Sadaqah and Waqf; keep restricted and general funds apart and prevent unauthorised transfers between funds
  • Keep vouchers and supporting documents, and reconcile bank and payment-channel records every month
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, fund-wise budget-versus-actual analysis and fund-use reports for donors
  • Keep the Foundation audit-ready all year: documents, registers and reconciliations up to date, and coordination with the external auditor
  • Handle tax and VAT deduction at source, return filing and any applicable regulatory financial reporting on time
  • Process payments under the approval matrix and segregation of duties; never approve and pay the same payment alone

Requirements

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in accounting, finance or a related field; part-qualified CA, ACCA or CMA preferred
  • At least 3 years of accounting experience; experience with restricted funds or fund accounting is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Bangladesh income tax, tax deduction at source, VAT and NGO Affairs Bureau financial reporting
  • Skill with accounting software and with Excel or Google Sheets
  • Understanding of the distinct nature of Zakat, Sadaqah and Waqf funds, and the discipline to follow scholar-reviewed policies strictly
  • Firm commitment to amanah, integrity and the confidentiality of financial information; respect for Islamic values
  • Report writing in Bangla and English; consent to reference and background checks at the final stage
